What do you usually expect from reading a book?

Currently I am reading Michelle Obama’s autobipgraphy “Becoming”. I found it is well-writen. She uses precisely the word where the book needs to be. This makes me feel cool about it.

My question is when you read a book, what do you expect from that book? Insights, humor, upliftingness? Or other things?

I bet the book is writen with help from a shadow author, or more. The pressure of the public of her book is huge he can’t afford to make a mistake.
She’s no writer, shes just rich and famous

I read non-fiction to learn something about the world.

And I read fiction to learn something about myself.

I like action and suspense. I prefer happy endings. I don’t mind if the book is sad but in the end, I want a feel good ending.

When i read i’m looking for an escape and entertainment. I just bought a copy of Dune and it will be my first foray into sci fi, so we’ll see how that goes.

Frustration and sadness at the loss of my ability to read more than a paragraph.
Audio books are good but not quite the same.
I like books that build the characters well.
The last actual book I read was “The Help”.
