My family doctor and psychiatrist want me to do the Keto diet to lose weight. (I’ve gained 100lbs.) BUT, I’m not a huge fan of meat and I really like fruit and dairy, which you’re not supposed to have with Keto.
Have you lost weight? What did you eat? I should do Keto. It would be worth it.
If you want to lose weight you need to eat less and exercise more.
I found eating every 2 or 3 hours (even if it’s jist a handful of peanuts) will keep you satisfied. As long as you know when you will get to eat next helps.
@everhopeful is right. Losing weight is simple (but not always easy.) Burn more calories than you eat. This means putting yourself in a caloric deficit. The easiest way to do this is eat less. Simple as that. It’s not so much what you eat it’s how much you eat that causes weight gain. This isn’t a diet, so you are more likely to sustain it. I count calories and have lost a good bit of weight.
I do, not often but sometimes. The MyFitnessPal App has a good database that you can search for any food, food from restaurants etc, and add them to your daily tracker. All for free. Users add food everyday so it’s easy to find foods from restaurants and stuff and see how many calories and the nutrition info.
@FlyingPurplePeopleMeeter. Years ago I lost a lot of weight just by cutting down my portions. I was never hungry and ate what I wanted. Instead of having a cheeseburger I’d have 2 or 3 bites of a cheeseburger and save the rest. It just clicked one day. In my head I said “You’re fat bc you tell yourself you’re fat.” The only problem is I got emotionally distraught over something and I went back to my old habits due to that.
I use a similar program to My Fitness Pal to count calories. Mine is called Sparkpeople. It has a nutrition tracker you can use to log your food intake and see how many calories you have in a day. When you first get started it takes a little bit longer, but there are lists for your favorite foods as well as food groupings you can make so you can log multiple foods with one entry. For example, I have my veggie burgers and peanut butter sandwiches as groupings so I don’t have to enter each thing separately. Now it only takes me about ten minutes to plan meals for a full week.
I am trying to lose two pounds per week. Sparkpeople says I can eat 1200-1550 calories per day, but while I’m just at home and not as active I do 1200-1400. Once I start volunteering, then working, I will allow myself to go up into the 1500s on the days I’m out. I have a collapsed disc in my spine so I can’t exercise enough to burn significant calories. I have to rely on my diet alone.
Calorie counting works! I am down 11 pounds so far toward a short-term weight loss goal of 49 pounds gone. I just started losing weight 11 weeks ago. I lost my Abilify weight already just by going off the drug. My weight gradually came down without any changes in diet. That was a really bad weight gainer for me. Now I want to lose my Geodon weight. I started at a high of 319 pounds, I’m currently 256. I want to get to 219, then 180.
I know it’s hard when you have so much to lose, but you can do it! You don’t have to do anything fancy like the keto diet, just shrink your portions and you can lose weight. Calorie counting is not hard to do when you use one of the online programs and apps. Sparkpeople will give you the right calorie range when you enter your starting and goal weights, so you can go off that. Good luck! I know you can do it!
I made it through the first 2 months because I was motivated. Eating snacks like peanuts and granola bars in between meals helps.
You kind of ha e to get over the “I’m hungry” feeling if you want to lose weight. Your going to be hungry and it’s going to suck. But I feel so much better @ 240 pounds than 300 pounds.
Part of what sucks so much is it feels like it takes a long time o lose weight. I had to lose 30 pounds before I even noticed a difference in the mirror. The good thing is once you get onto a healthy diet and exercise regiment you will FEEL better almost immediately.
I would just concentrate on eliminating salt and sugar from your diet. It will make you naturally less hungry. Then also have low gi foods like al dente pasta, parboiled rice etc with leafy greens like spinach and mixed greens with an oil and balsamic vinaigrette
I think keto is sort of the “easier way out” for a lot of people who want to lower their blood sugar but instead of adding vegetables to slow digestion of carbs they just add oil which slows it but also adds calories and will mess with horomones. Its tastier and easier to stick to so its effective but simply adding more salad with every meal imo is just fine
