What did you say during disability hearing?

This is only for those that had to go through a hearing.

What did you say? How does your sz/sza limit your ability to work?

I have mine in a month and I struggle so hard with work but I’m having trouble putting words to it which I really need to figure out.

I straight away told them I haven’t got anything mentally wrong with me and social services are stealing my money.

I went with my supported living manager for the medical for my Employment Support Allowance (disability benefits in the U.K.) My community nurse wrote me an excellent letter a couple of weeks before I went. It was very detailed. In the letter it talked about severe psychosis and self harm from delusions. How I lacked insight into the illness. How I lack capacity with finances.etc.

The assessor read the letter and said if they’d got the letter before I attended I wouldnt of been called to a medical. He asked me a few questions what I did during the day. I told him I attended a NHS day centre for people with intellectual disabilities. He said he had enough information.

My manager asked what’s going to happen now and he said he could see I was severely disabled and my benefits with remain the same.

I was in and out in 10 minutes and was still awarded full disability benefits.

Something working against me is I’ve never been fired and I work part time.

I was in such a bad episode I don’t really remember much, my lawyer did most of the talking. I do remember the judge asked me when I was working how many days a month I missed and if I had a smart phone

A smart phone? That seems irrelevant hmm

I told the committee that i can’t work.
I told them about the dozen of aps
I have changed, and the 11 voices I have.

They kept me for 15 minutes in their office.

They asked if i ever was hospitalised.
I said no

Yeah I still have no idea why he asked that

I didn’t have a hearing. My doctors and social workers did all my paperwork for me. I had been hospitalized a million times. I received disability payments within 3 months of application.

Probably different in Canada. My pdoc did all the paperwork. They asked me a million questions on the phone including whether I was right or left handed lol. Not sure why that mattered. It took around 3 or 4 months but then got back pay so it was great.
