you better be gay than schizophrenic.

really …???

yes, gays also have stigma. But they do not have to suffer as intensely as a psychotic.

They’re just trying to play on your fears. If you ignore them they’ll probably go away

Are you sure you’re not having a psychotic relapse? It sounds like you are. Should you call somebody ?

If psychosis was as easy as ignore it and it’ll go away none of us would be here.

If he was stable until this happened, trying to ignore them might be a good strategy.

Maybe I just suck, but ignoring my voices has never even once made them go away.

It sounds like the voices are playing on your fears of being considered feminine/gay. Maybe you should try and remind yourself that there is nothing bad about being feminine or gay, whether it describes you or not.

It could make him care less about what they say, though. We can’t all expect full symptomatic recovery from meds. He’ll have to weigh whether to call his doctor and ask for a med increase or deal with the symptoms he’s having in other ways.

I definitely don’t get full symptom recovery from meds, so I’m not sure what that has to do with what I said or how that’s relevant. I just disagreed that ignoring them would make them go away. It works for you, great. I leaned something new. It doesn’t work for me.

I just wanted to say that trying harder to ignore them might not be such a bad idea.
Ignoring my hallucinations has always made it a lot easier to deal with them.
It doesn’t make them go away, but it makes everything a lot easier.

Ignore them they’ll be easier to deal with is a far way off from ignore them they’ll go away.

Right. But I never said that, and I never said you were wrong. I just wanted to add that it might be worth trying.

It may not be voices. Sexual obsessions are common symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The literal content of these obsessions superficially resembles other types of iterative sexual ideation, as seen in, PTSD and normal sexual fantasy. However, their form, function, and effect on behavior vary greatly. A failure for a physician to distinguish these items can lead to wrong treatment.

If you actually hear an audible voice - like hearing the voice of someone when you are interacting with them - that comes from inside your head, this is more likely an auditory hallucination. For now, do not respond to any of their commands or believe what is said.
