What are your options on life insurance?

Obviously you want to have something to bury you, and leave a little bit

especially if you have kids.

I locked into 200K dollar plan I’m still paying on over 20 years ago

I’m a smoker, and I take meds, and I claim gov abuse.

I was happy to get that. Phil has 25K.

I want to be buried in Erie, Illinois, next to Phil and his parents.

I don’t want to be cremated. I used to be Catholic.

My daughter has life insurance. It’s like $21 a month. I don’t know what the payout is.

They wont insure you once your policy is up. There is a higher bracket for schizophrenics. I looked into it.

hmmm? I’m still covered. I go thru American Family, for my home, auto and life, get a pretty good deal.

I have a policy through work that’s pretty good. It will be enough to cover expenses if anything happens.

Did you get the policy before you had sz?

I want to be cremated and put in a graveyard crematorium with my mother who wants to be cremated too and my grandmother who was buried in the graveyard. My mom and me are looking into life insurance at my age of 32 so this will all be possible, my mom already has her life insurance through work

no, it was after. I tried raising the pay out, but the decision was no.

I don’t think I can get a reasonably priced insurance plan since I’m already schizophrenic. Anybody know about this?

I tried when I had my daughter and either got turned down our priced out. It was pretty ridiculous.

That’s so unfair.

She told me after 3 years I’m covered for suicide.

Why would she tell me that???

Suicide isn’t covered on a lot of policies. Maybe you chose one that was and she made note of it. Hopefully it wasn’t a slight anyways.

My mom gets 110,000 if I die. I have had the policy before I got schiz. They asked when I first got it if I had a mental disorder. At the time the answer was no.

With sza, I’m now uninsurable. I have two death policies though. They aren’t for much.

Does anyone know if they can refuse to pay the life insurance if I die? When I got the policy I didnt have schiz. We just pay the premiums. I’m reading and they dont want to insure people with this condition because of suicide. But my policy doesmt.pay.if I commit suicide amyeays.

Somewhat, but I’m licensed for General insurance, NOT Life. That being said, SZs are in a higher risk class and rated accordingly (more premium, lower payout).

Your policy likely had a suicide clause. They’re for a period of two or more years and are there to discourage someone from purchasing a policy and snuffing themselves immediately thereafter to trigger a payout to their beneificiaries. Your agent is obligated to inform you of major changes in your policy, such as when major restrictions are lifted and your payout eligibility changes. The agent was just doing her job properly.

Conditions that develop AFTER the pollicy is bound cannot be held against you. If you had an illness and failed to disclose, well, that would be grounds to refuse a payout.

Some might, discuss it with your agent to be sure. It may be that it didn’t pay out at first because of a time limiting clause as mentioned above.

I converted my SGLI to VGLI when I got out of the military so no strings attached for preexising conditions. I think I have like $285,000 worth. I had $400,000 when I was in the military. I lowered it. It costs me about $60 a month and it’s term insurance so it will go up as I get older. I will keep it while I don’t have the mortgage paid off.

I didn’t convert my wife’s though so she doesn’t have any. She is an alcoholic and can’t get coverage if you answer the health questions honestly. She had $100,000 when I was in the military but I didn’t know I could have converted that too but it’s too late now. If you wait too long they can ask you health questions again.

I don’t think anyone would write me a new policy with schizophrenia.

If I die before my parents (please eye in the sky let it be so) they will pay costs from my inheritance and make sure my kids are okay with the remainder.
If I live longer and get the inheritance I will put it in the bank for my kidlets.

I don’t have life insurance. I don’t think life insurance is as big a deal here in Australia. If you need healthcare, you’ll get it. I would consider a pre-paid funeral though, rather than funeral or life insurance. Insurance you got to keep paying into year after year after year. Whereas if you have a pre-paid funeral plan, you’ve already paid what you owe, and you won’t be charged anymore. Any money left over will go to your family.
