sz is not understood correctly …!!! till now…!!! its a matter of great concern…!!
getting an MRI done on the brain with contrast
has as much radiation as a person should be exposed to in 3 to 5 years
a CT scan series should only be done once a year
is there any chances of cure …!!
My take-home points from the article are that social factors play a major role in the potential for the development of schizophrenia. Furthermore, antipsychotics are risk factors in the development of schizophrenia primarily by damaging receptors of certain neurotransmitters.
If Murray is correct, schizophrenia research needs a paradigm shift towards a psychological alternative of a coping mechanism, albeit very risky and haphazard, used by individuals who find themselves in an environment that is simply no longer sustainable for them.
Uh - I don’t think it said that at all - quite the opposite. Here is a quote:
So, in 2016, it is clear that high-dose antipsychotics contribute, not to the subtle brain changes present at onset of schizophrenia, but to the subsequent “progressive” changes thereafter; indeed, not only antipsychotics but probably also cannabis use, diabetes, and hypertension.
we are the only subset of people who believe smoking pot leads to greater symptoms of schizophrenia
every recreational user I’ve known says, What? smoking pot doesn’t cause schizophrenia.
And how would a health condition increase chances of a more progressive illness?
@SzAdmin Thank you.
The 64K question: What constitutes a high dose? And does length of time using the high dose (whatever that’s determined to be) contribute towards damaging receptors on certain neurotransmitters?
The majority of them are also dumber than a sack of hammers.
Ah!
Not really

So far I just looked at the part with him talking about how schizophrenia is not a progressive disorder. Also yet another person who talks about schizophrenics should not use marijuana. I wonder if I have enough of a dose of AP to cause degradation of my cerebral cortex like he mentioned.
Also @MeghillaGorilla1 you should check out the portion on cannabis since I know it is an issue you care about.
Thanks @SP2342 I’ll take a look at it.
I don’t have pure sz but I’ve had 8 psychotic episodes. The jury is still out as to weather it’s bipolar disorder or schizoaffective but one thing I know is that it’s from chronic and repeated self medicating with marijuana from a young age. Was I genetically predisposed? Yes I think so. But the pot lit the fuse that caused the illness.
An interesting account from within the pendulum that is psychiatry. I typically feel rather stupid when clashes of psycho(socio)logical and biological accounts are debated or contrasted. For I am unsure whether I understand how biochemical anomalies give rise to anomalous experiences. On the other hand, even worse, I am not sure whether I understand the idea of psychological causation at all.
I’m wondering if what is being attributed to medication in terms of brain structure changes could also be attributed to allostatic loading?
Perhaps we need to put some neurotypicals on AP’s for a couple of years
Agreed. Can we start with Rosie O’Donnell?
Rosie O’Donnell is a human?!..
