Weird. A whole new timeline of music

It’s funny, I always had in my mind that I was in Soteria in 1980 when I was 19 and then in the hospital for 8 months in 1981. I’ve always thought this for 40 years. But I’ve been playing videos of 1980’s music on YouTube and I realized today something was off. Now I’m revising my whole early mental health history due to the music that was popular back then.

I thought “Billie Jean” was popular in 1981. I remember I was in the nice group home and the vocational program when Billie Jean hit #1. I thought that was 1982 but Billie Jean hit #1 in 1983. I was off by two years. And “A Land Down Under” came out in late 1982; I remember it was on the radio constantly. So remembering that “Maneater” by Hall & Oates, "Like A Virgin"by Madonna, 867-5309 by Tommy Tutone were popular in 1983 means I’ve been off by two years in my history.

After I looked up when these songs hit #1 it changed my whole history. Weird. Thanks to popular 80’s music and YouTube I can now remember where I was living at certain times, where I was working, when I got my first car after being diagnosed, and when I first went to college. Thanks to Simple Minds "Don’t You ( Forget About Me) I can even pinpoint when I first tried crack (not the happiest milestone though). Wow, this changes everything.

My dad kept a diary of me growing up. I then picked up where he left off and filled several notebooks up to my early twenties. Then I stopped. But I know for sure dad has been keeping tabs on my illness since 2014 to this day: symptoms, treatments, discussions we’ve had etc. Moreover, mom has the memory of an elephant, she recently reminded me the year of nasal polip surgery (1989), I could have sworn it was a year later but nope.
