Watched a sobering documentary "living on a dollar a day"

I watched a documentary on some university students that decided to film a documentary in rural guatemala and choosing to live their way of life for 2 months on 1 dollar a day per person.

The struggle of poverty is pretty tough to watch . I’d love to help but im so distrusting of non profit organisations because I can never see directly where the money goes. I do want to help people in need in my area though even if its just a cup of coffee on a cold winter day. or give one of my old winter jackets away.

I was watching this documentary on a big screen tv while I ate a big box of kraft dinner , surfing the internet on my Samsung S-5 , and now im typing on my laptop while most of the lights are on in the house.

and I complain about waking up before Noon…

the difference of life in the west compared to places like that is just too drastic.

its mind boggling really.

I’m going to start being more thankful. Thankful for food on my plate, thankful for a warm house, thankful for a car, thankful for a well paying job, thankful for the opportunity to be born into a developed society. theres just so much.

anyway thought I’d share . the movie is on netflix if you have that.

within my lonliness ,

I haVe learned about Simplicity ,

it really is ,

a simple city ,

give give give ,

and some day it will return ,

soon enuff I suppose ,

“it onli lasts for a moment” ,

but within simplicity you can fynde that you don’t need much ,

this is (right now) what I have been liVinG on ,

1.) - Cup Of Noodles (a day)

2.) - Packs Of Smokes

3.) - and soda/water

that’s what I discovered as what I need to smile throo a day ,

altho sumtymez within a simple city the night can feel pretty dark ,

and you wonder could I be lyke thoZe without a house ?? ,

the answer is “■■■■ no” ,

but sadly I would fynde a waye to make it but as you said ,

in your own waye ,

some people don’t evn haVe close to what we all haVe ,

which is whaT I learned from animal house sadness ,

the homeless ,

the troops without limbs ,

and I agree abouT donatinG ,

I also want to shee where tha moni goeZ …

but after seeinG thaz shtuff on tha screen ,

I devoured less and less ,

When I was young the world had a population of three-billion, and two-thirds of the people lived in poverty. Now the world has a population of six-billion, and one-third of the people live in poverty. In both cases two-billion people lived in poverty. It’s shocking when you see what real poverty is. I saw real poverty for the first time in Juarez, Mexico. For miles and miles there were these villages of dirt floor adobe huts. My sister said there were ten to thirteen people living in each hut.
I gave a couple of hundred dollars to “Doctors Without Borders” before Christmas. I watched “A Christmas Carol” on TV, and that put me in a giving mood. I’ll probably donate more later.

yes I saw it in thailand it was just tin shacks, at the side of the railroad tracks outside of bangkok it was outragaeous

Funny thing is, many of those people living in what we call poverty, have far more life inside them than the rich. …not that they wouldn’t trade places mind you, but there is much to say about when one has had “enough”.

The Buddha says that “Have compassion for all - Rich or Poor. Each has his own Suffering”.

I remember a quote by Mother Theresa where she says that Suffering due to a hungry stomach is difficult but could be managed but more immense is the Suffering where one is not Loved or cared by anyone. That is a greater suffering.

So everyone in this world suffers whether they have money or not. Some suffer little others more.

Generally I have seen the more the wealth the more the uncaring nature of human becomes…atleast thats what i see here in India.

There’s a difference between not knowing when your next meal will be compared to just being poor.
You need necessitys

I have lived both sides of the fence. I don’t have the fear of not knowing where my next meal comes from as long as I have friends, and I have feed those without a meal as well.
To have no one care for you can truly feel the worst.

Don’t be thankful, ever.

This is such a completely depraved way to be.

I think we should all get everyone up to an adequate form of shitty though of course, some of this is so nightmarish you can’t even find rest if you think of it.

Human beings are so screwed.

You know whats crazy about people though? There won’t even be food on the table and you’ll be living in a slum city, no medicine, all pain and death, and people will still have children. You can live in a cannibalistic famine filled hell hole and they’ll still get pregnant. Does that seem strange at all to anyone?

Is there absolutely no standard in anyone’s mind when it comes to reproduction and what should be in place in order to reproduce? It’s a famine for ■■■■’s sake! Your kid is just going to die.

Don’t be thankful though, not ever, we compare ourselves to all of that, thats the bottom, thats like people comparing themselves to hitler when it comes to morality, i mean it’s the bottom, it doesn’t mean you have it good.

Alright, let’s get going, we have a lot to accomplish so that we can die repeatedly.

I mean ■■■■! They are immortal! Wtf?! That is so lucky! They never die, they don’t have to worry about almost everything that we do! This is complete ■■■■■■■■ actually. Im flesh, ■■■■■■■ diseased dying flesh, and they aren’t!

Compared to them we all live in hell.

It sounds like your in hell mate. Hope you get out of it one day

Saw this the other day or did someone post it?
