Was being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder rare in the early 90s?

I was re-watching Terminator 2 and didn’t notice Sarah Conner was diagnosed with acute Schizoaffective Disorder while she was institutionalised. This diagnosis is rarer than Schizophrenia even today so was this even rarer in the 90s and the writers used this in Terminator 2 as it was more exotic and sounds more severe?

It’s the movies. It’s not meant to be taken seriously, especially this movie.
