Voices causing anxiety

I haven’t been diagnosed with schizophrenia or psychosis. I’m just getting really upset since I hear voices when I’m trying to go to sleep or when I’m about to awake up. I also get flashing mental images. This has been going on for about 3 years now. My doctor doesn’t think it’s schizophenia or bipolar. He mentioned stress and anxiety is probably cause this. I honestly don’t know if this is normal since it happens so often though. I get days where I feel better and then I get more anxious about this again.

Voices before sleep and after sleep
are normal

Tell your doctor that you want to be referred to a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist can give you a more definitive answer.

You can get whats called hypnogogic (night) and hypnopompic (morning) hallucinations before and waking from sleeping.

Maybe you could get a sleep test?

Hope you are in a better place, this is common as stated by others, could I be so bold as to recommend Bone Conduction Headphones and playing some either calming instrumental music or white noise, as this might mesh or block out what is troubling you.
