Use the word individuals instead of people

It does a lot to curb generalization.

“People” groups everyone together. The plurality of it is implied but without being stated clearly it’s to easy to see them all as one thing.

“Individuals” on the other hand is explicitly pluralized and sets the mind up to remember that each individual is separate and diversified from the rest.

Just a lingual trick.

Say “could” not “should” is another.

Thanks for writing this.

I’ve wondered about this alot. “Individuals” reminds me of cops talking about suspects and I have a hard time using it.

I like your explanation. Could not should also good for finetuning language.

My father used the word individual when speaking of himself instead of person. I’m not a happy individual. As if he weren’t really a person at all. So individual has a negative association for me.

I am a unique individual, just like everyone else.

Some individuals say “chip off the old block” but I don’t. I just say “do you want fries with that?”
