I posted about how badly my husband burned his hand. Also with the problem we had getting him to the burn center.
I’ve been caring for it and changing dressings daily. For the first week it was really gross. Weepy, etc. Had a hard time spreading cream on it, though I managed to coat it well.
We’ve removed all the dead, burned skin (per doctor direction) and it began to heal better. I’ve been working on keeping his blood glucose below 200 so hed not have slowed healing.
As of yesterday it looked like new epidermis was covering 80% of the wound! Today it looks even better. It is no longer wet and weepy, feels like smooth skin on 90%. Cream spreads easily now and I was able to bandage less area.
The skin doesnt lookto be tightening where he can’t move it (contracture) due to him being able to move while healing. Since he couldn’t feel it, he didnt guard his hand and not move it, so it isn’t “stuck”.
I felt really hopeless and upset last week, but today I’m really stoked.
Also, his ride through medical transport was not approved, so he still can’t go to the burn center. To be honest, he probably wont be able to get there before it’s fully healed, so we probably won’t try to reschedule.
I guess it’s upsetting when something like that happens since you don’t know how it will turn out, but sounds like it’s going well. Good job. Hopefully a full recovery.
I actually studied a little nursing. Never finished. I used to look at first aid as my hobby and took classes every year for a long time. Then worked with a vet. I was a CNA and rehab tech for a few years. I love health care.
