Update for those who care

Is the pain bad enough to ruin your day? You could see a pain management specialist. I don’t have arthritis myself, just one finger that feels arthritic because it got a third degree burn on it from bacon grease a couple years ago. I really hope it’s not too much pain, pain is nothing to mess around with. Home remedies maybe? Something you can adjust in your diet? They must have suggested something.

Also best wishes to your pops! Punctured lungs are scary, it’s a good thing we have two!

I also hope you will feel better and that your father will recover quickly.

My x boyfriend uses a arthritis cream that helps him with pain.
I will see if I can find out the name of it.
I have his email and it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Well I’m glad you got answers. That must make things a little less scary. I hope the new medicine works soon and you feel better fast.

I hope your dad continues to cooperate with the docs so he can get back home soon.

Take care and I hope the stress goes down soon and your family can come together instead of making the problems worse.

I’m sorry you are facing a lot of stress right now @anon78876561. And chronic physical pain can be hard to bear. I know there are days my mom cant even get out bed because of her arthritis. She’s 70 but she still insists on doing all the house cleaning daily when she can. From my earlier talks with you, I would say just be patient. I know you are strong enough to get through this.

I’m on the humira. It’s an immune suppressant so I have been getting really sick and missing doses because of it. They are putting me on something else.

Yes. I can only walk with a cane at this point. The nerve pain medicine improved my movement alot. Without it I am debilitated. I am not eating carbs because they contribute to the inflammation that is going on. I can’t tell if it is helping or not. My rheumatologist has been difficult to work with. She told me this wasn’t related to my arthritis at all.

My dad is doing okay. His mood has much improved. His healing has been slower than they expected. They are now looking at his heart as being part of the problem. They put a heart catheter in him today and are going to do another procedure in a couple days. They have said he is not healthy enough to go to the nursing facility yet. I am worried.

I also have arthritis in all of my joints. But, I don’t have RA. I have OA. I take Naproxen for my arthritis and it works pretty good. I also do yoga every day to treat it. Yoga works great to keep me very limber and strong.

I’m sorry to hear they’re worried about his heart and that he’s not well enough to be moved. I’ll keep him in my prayers.

Hi @anon78876561, I was reading the Schizophrenia.com summary from my email account and this immediately caught my attention. I was on break from here due to a physical illness called muscular dystrophy (i.e. titinopathy).

Okay. So I had medical uncertainty for a long time. But I’m glad that you have a diagnosis and now you know how they can treat you. Please do not be dismayed; there is hope. I have chronic pain also, which stems from the atrophy of my muscles. I also started to have major issues climbing up the stairs. Eventually, I might stop walking and lose the ability to do so. But there is hope. I know the treatment can be tough but I assure you that everything is going to be okay. If you desire, I can also help you to choose mobility aids if needed and offer my support. I have heard that treatment for arthritis can very effective and recovery is possible.

I strongly suggest finding a support group for those with arthritis because it will definitely help you to navigate through your illness. If your arthritis is genetic, it’s perhaps a good idea to see a geneticist about this issue as well.

I’m also very sorry to hear about your dad. I hope that he will recover soon! While he is being taken care of in the facility, I think you should take care of yourself, too. Self care is so important in a physical illness.

Also, you’re doing great! Please do not give up. As a person dealing with paranoia and a genetic disease, I know how hard it can be to cope with two illnesses. Keep going and you got this!

I will come back intermittenly as needed, answering any questions. I hope you are doing well! :two_hearts:

all painful long term things will of course be difficult
I can’t imagine pain from so many joints… minor soreness worries me but i have never really had to live with pain long term

Sorry to hear about your father.
my mum (at the same age) last year stepped out in front of a car,
she had open both bone lower leg fracture and had 2 plates and lots of screws
from immobility she had DVT and then Pulmonary embolism

I think it is possible to be lucky - even with the most unimaginable stuff
this physical stuff is so individual
at 74 I hope your dad is possibly not frail yet - if so that is a good place to start with coping

Hi Oolaloola. I hope your pain is manage-able today. I’m so sorry to hear about all that. :frowning: I can’t imagine having such bad chronic pain.
I have a suggestion for something for the pain that REALLY works for pain-relief, and has no harmful side-effects. It’s a plant called “kratom” that you can order in the form of powdered leaves. It’s super cheap, like $5 a bag, and I get mine from a site called gaia ethnobotanical .com. You just mix a couple grams of it (very small amount) with lemonade or juice, and it really helps alleviate any pain. It also is relaxing. That’s why I drink it myself, because I get very anxious and have panic attacks, and it really helps to make me relax and feel calmer and more peaceful. But it also really helps pain in a big way.
Your post made me so sad that you seem to be suffering so much. I hope you feel better. <3 I would even mail you some of my kratom if you want, because I have an un-opened bag. I don’t know if we’re allowed to exchange addresses on this site though… I just signed up. Anyway, good luck Oolaloola. I hope your pain gets better!!

His heart? That’s scary stuff! Praying for him and you!

Thank you so much @Pygar. I’m sorry to get back to you so slowly. There’s alot going on here right now. I have never heard about kratom, but I will look into it. Thank you for thinking of me. We cannot exchange personal information on this site, but I appreciate your advise and will look into it. Thanks so much.

Thank you @Toshiko for responding to me. I hope this isn’t going to be a lifetime problem. My dad is home from the hospital!!! He is on oxygen for a while. After 6-8 weeks, he will have open heart surgery. So we’re not out of the hole yet!!
