Has anyone encounter this before? At first there is reason to go to bed because it is too late, but then resist to go to bed because of feeling energetic. At last there is attempt to go to bed after feeling tired, but it is difficult to fall asleep because of will power.
I often find it difficult to sleep when I am longing for something (next day interview, appointment, etc), or when I am doing something incompletely (assignment to finish, etc).
I discover that it is easier to fall asleep after exercising or crying.
I take trazadone, a non addictive sleep aid (300 mg). I take a high dose because I really need something to “knock me out” usually. Otherwise I would never have a good night’s rest. Good luck.
Thank you for reminding me of sleeping pill. I could have that zolpidiem (which is addictive I think.)
I have from time to time. I have 5 different sleeping meds that I take. Nitrazepam, Zopiclone, melatonin, Quetiapin, theralen. I also can add Oxazepam if I’m anxious. Sometimes I have to take it all to sleep.
Mostly It’s all to do with sleep hygiene.
Avoid napping during the day. It can disturb the normal pattern of sleep and wakefulness.
Avoid stimulants such as caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol too close to bedtime. While alcohol is well known to speed the onset of sleep, it disrupts sleep in the second half as the body begins to metabolize the alcohol, causing arousal. Cut off all caffeine at around 4pm.that seems to be the best time I’ve found.
Exercise can promote good sleep. Vigorous exercise should be taken in the morning or late afternoon. A relaxing exercise, like yoga, can be done before bed to help initiate a restful night’s sleep.
Food can be disruptive right before sleep. Stay away from large meals close to bedtime. Also dietary changes can cause sleep problems, if someone is struggling with a sleep problem, it’s not a good time to start experimenting with spicy dishes. And, remember, chocolate has caffeine.
Ensure adequate exposure to natural light. This is particularly important for older people who may not venture outside as frequently as children and adults. Light exposure helps maintain a healthy sleep-wake cycle.
Establish a regular relaxing bedtime routine. Try to avoid emotionally upsetting conversations and activities before trying to go to sleep. Don’t dwell on, or bring your problems to bed. It’s where keeping a journal is great to get it all out of your head. I used to write before bed. Might be something you can do now. See if that helps.
Clean sheets. They should be changed once a week regardless of weather. A clean bed too. Bed is for sex and sleep only.
If you’re having troubles getting to sleep now. Warm milk helps. As does having a warm bath or shower. Just relaxes the body, Listen to some relaxing music.Have a light meal but nothing to heavy. If you still can’t get to sleep after that do something physical. I do the most mundane chores like clean the bathroom to help me get to sleep.
Try and avoid the TV and computer as both are stimulants and will keep you up. Sometimes an exciting book will do the same. Lost count of how many times I’ve stayed up to finish a good book. But sometimes a book will help.
Change the sheets if it’s been awhile. Nothing like a clean comfortable bed to help you relax.
Lastly if it continues talk to your doctor. Sleeping pills are in my cocktail of meds as are they with many off us. Sleep clinics are also around and will go to great length to see what the problem is. Also help to reset the body clock.
If you are up all night. Get as much sun during the day to help reset your body clock.
I’m also a hypocrite as it’s like 1am here. But hey it’s a Saturday night!
I take three medicines that cause anxiety in sleep my cure exercise exercise enough that you’re exhausted to sleep
I stop sleeping when I get psychotic. I have sleep meds for two weeks and then I sleep well again and stop the episode from happening. Sleep is the key for me.
It is lengthy and am amazed on how experienced you are sleep hygiene (and at least one more subject). Yes, computer is what causing me stay awake at bed. I don’t have the habit for journal writing but will try something else. Perhaps a nap this afternoon has effect on my sleep pattern.
Thank you for the tips and tricks.
I take an addictive sleeping pill, restoril, that works great most of the time, but I still wake up to smoke every couple of hours and go right back to sleep. I have tried all the non addictive stuff, and nothing works anymore so now only this helps me.
There’s your solution right there! Start exercising before you go to bed. A huge amount of people with sz also have sleep issues. I know I do.
Or you could always take sleep medication or whatever.
Thanks. Sometimes it is a 2-day cycle to get back the nighttime sleep, or normal sleep pattern.
Now I know part of you do.
Try phenibut. Helps me sleep a bunch. I fill 1 00 capsule. Knocks me out
Story of my life. Tried everyhing. Got addicted to sleeping pills.
Now pretty much clean and insomniac.
