Hey guys. The Star family is taking a trip across the country starting tomorrow. I’m nervous about it. Public transit stresses me out, especially planes because I’m arab and ALWAYS get selected for additional screening, and I’m also trans so the x ray machine doesn’t work correctly for me. So I have to deal with the pat down and the awkward questions. It is also my first time trying to bring Starlet on a plane, and I don’t know how he will cope. He has public bathroom anxiety and we will be travelling about 11 hours total.
We will have to get up at 3AM to make our flight, and then travel to another time zone, so all our sleep schedules all be thrown off. This will probably be worst for me. And we are travelling to a state that doesn’t allow CBD, so I can’t bring it in case I get nervous on the plane.
We have our plan, and I will have Mr. Star as backup in case anything goes wrong. But I am definitely fretting. Leave me some love to help me get through!
Nah I have never been prescribed benzos, and probably shouldn’t try them for the first time when I’m responsible for an impulsive child in unfamiliar situations.
@anon54386108 they have two settings. The male setting will trigger a “suspicious finding” on my chest, and the female setting will trigger a “suspicious finding” on my groin. And technically I could just leave my off, but that makes the bathroom situation much more horrible, as anyone who has ever had to use a plane bathroom without being able to stand and aim could attest.
Try grounding exercises while on the plane. Teach them to starlet too. At least they’re willing to do that pat down when the machine doesn’t read properly and they still let you through. I’m sorry you get hassled as an Arab. I can see that really bothering you. But you’re armed with knowledge so the extra screening won’t be as bad because you can mentally prepare in advanced for the questions.
Great news! The TSA agent who patted me down was also LGBT and did not ask awkward questions! And Starlet is being cooperative thus far, and we had zero trouble bringing a kid who is not biologically ours on the plane!
Next spot of trouble: we have a 30 minute layover after this flight. We have to make it to another section of the terminal in that time AND ask about getting our seats changed because there were no seats all together and Starlet cannot sit alone because he is too impulsive.
