Hey mate, here’s a copy of what I posted on the other thread:

Well since you asked… Here’s what worked for me. Basically I focused on three things. (Disclaimer: I’m using the term “you” a lot, but I’m not talking about anyone in particular, it’s just easier for me to write it like that.)

  1. Smoking is insidious when trying to quit because you’re not just breaking an addiction, you’re also breaking a habit. If you’re anything like me that habit takes up a good part of your day and for me I wouldn’t even notice how often I would smoke. My first tip is to break the habit before the addiction. Use an aid! I used nicotine gum, but there are other options. Quitting cold turkey is hard because you’re trying to stop a habit and an addiction at the same time. With an aid you can also lower the nicotine gradually instead of just trying to detox at once. The good news about smoking is it isn’t as immediately deadly as other substances, so generally speaking most people have time to lower it gradually.
  2. Make a list of reasons you want to quit. Take a personal inventory of why you want to quit, write it down, and keep that list on you. Pull it out when you’re having the urge to smoke. It has to be a personal list. When I say that I don’t mean it has to be deep and ultra important things like “I don’t want to die,” that was on my list, I’m just saying while that certainly belongs on anyones list, it has to be sure personally important to you. Simple things work too. I wanted to smell and taste, and that was important enough to make my list. I made a list of 10 things, and I challenge those who want to quit to at least start off with 5.
  3. When you’re ready to quit don’t wait to do it. What I mean is don’t say you’ll quit in three days to enjoy yourself until then. If you want it do it now. Don’t say next Monday, say right this minute. It really helped me to go into these things without starting off by compromising on my goal immediately.

Super cheese incoming :warning: :rotating_light: The day you’re ready to quit you won’t be thinking “one day,” you’ll be thinking “today is day one.”

I used Nicorette gum. I was determined to quit to become pregnant though. I quit November’06 and became pregnant March ‘07.

You’re welcome! I also forgot something important. If you don’t succeed the first time keep trying! It took me so many times of trying to stop before it landed. Failure only happens when we stop trying, anything that happens before then is just part of the adventure.

Rules. Like only smoking outside.

I use to smoke in the house. Non stop.

Ask your doctor! Social security (at least in Europe) has a program for quitting smoking…

One a day keep my decisions firm,
either do it or don’t do it,
if I play around yes and no,
and break the decisions,
it effects the other decisions as well IMO.
I am not promoting smoking but don’t play with decisions.

I weaned myself off over time to help break the nicotine habit as well as the hand mouth habit.

Look at it like this… every cigarette u inhale increases your chances of gettimg lung cancer
