Ticket to Work Program

Here’s the link I followed for it, found the agency in my area.

They are closed for Veterans Day :sleepy:

I had my choice between ticket to work and vocational rehab by the VA. I chose vocational rehab, because it seemed like a better deal. But from what I understand ticket to work is a pretty good deal if you do not have access to the VA.

I went to the non-va vocational rehabilitation, thought it was a joke, they’re only offer for help was to work at the Goodwill Store.

That sucks. 1515151515

Did they at least offer supports?

I went to the VA for Voc rehab and they wanted to put me on an independent living program. Said I was too disabled for work or school. Now I am going to school with my GI Bill and am passing.

That’s really good I’m jealous, the other part of vocational rehab if you’re on SSI is that the tuition for some job retraining programs is waved. I don’t qualify with SSDI as I make too much money. Some retraining is for

Certified nurse assistant
Pharmacy tech
HVAC
truck Driving

And others I don’t remember. It’s a better deal if you’re on SSI.

Yeah, it was hell being able to go to school under Voc Rehab. I am going for a “test” semester. They wrote me out a contract for one semester, and put me on extended evaluation. They said there is a feasibility problem with me having schizophrenia. So far I am doing well. I have a 100 average in program design and development, a 93 in Web Design and Development, an 89 in computer concepts, and an 87 in College Algebra. So far my grades are qualifying me to get a full contract but they want to wait and see how I do on finals before they even talk about a full contract. Finals are in 4 weeks.

I am confident. My Voc Rehab counselor has already said I have exceeded his expectations. My Program Design and Development instructor says I am his best student despite my schizophrenia. He calls me an “overachiever”. I have missed one day of class though due to my schizophrenia and that could go against me I am afraid.

Well it’s good they are taking a chance on you. I got referred for Compensated Work Therapy with the VA but didn’t get too far with that because I enrolled in school full time. The post 9/11 GI Bill is a pretty good deal. So far I have gotten all As and I am on my fourth semester of a five semester program.

They treated me like this too, it appears to be the one disqualification from the program, a Sz diagnosis. That’s when she offered to have me talk to the Goodwill store. My pdoc claims I’m better off just volunteering, not working.

The last time I went to the V.A. vocational rehab. They told me I was unrehabilitatable.
