I wondered what the substance use was in the general population?
I found this:
Mental health statistics: substance misuse | Mental Health Foundation
"16.6% of adults in England report drinking to hazardous levels, while 1.2% report levels which indicate probable dependence on alcohol.1
3.1% of adults in England show signs of drug dependence and men (4.3%) are more likely to be dependent on illegal drugs than women (1.9%).2
Half of people with drug dependence were receiving mental health treatment in 2014 and adults with drug dependence are twice as likely as the general population to be using psychological therapy."
Also:
Im not surprised, its easy to fall into that as a coping mechanism when youre not doing well
Smoking counts in the study, so the stats will be bound to be high.
One thing to note is that only about 20% of people who try drugs get addicted.
And yes alcohol is a drug and the figures are exactly for the same for alcoholism and drug addiction rates. Meaning 20% of people who try alcohol get addicted, same number as illicit and unprescribed intoxicating drugs
Which doesn’t come as a surprise to me but I think it’s worthy of mentioning.
I had recently started using again and it took everything in me to quit it. And that’s after being clean for many, many years. It’s so easy to turn to substances to help cope.
I vape Nicotine and smoke cannabis wax it’s expensive I wouldn’t be able to afford it without a job
