This present day - a poem

Here’s another one @Leaf

Today
A word with little meaning
According to Merriam Webster
Simply
This present day.
Just that. Nothing more.
No long winded definition.
No pages of synonyms
But this day
Today
Means so much more.
Today
I let you die.
All the tears are shed
All the memories stored away.
All the pain
The anger
The nightmares
All of it
Put away in a cardboard box
And set at the concrete curb.
Its done
I died a million times before.
I cant do that again.
If this wound has taught me
One single lesson
It is that not letting go
Kills me slowly
Until i can’t die
one
more
time.
So today
I’m laying you to rest
In a brown paper box
With no fuss
No ceremony.
Today
You are dead to me.
Today
I’m finally living.
This present day.
