8 / 2(2 + 2)
Using BEDMAS order (brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction)
8 / 2(4)
8 / 8
1
im guessing u must be from a different country we call it PEMDAS where i am
It’s 16 and a horribly written mathematical expression
It has 2 answers, 1 and 16. Math can have multiple correct answers!
It is definitely 1. I agree with @naturallycured
The 2 outside the brackets is a multiplier. So you do the brackets first (to get 8/2(4)).
To get 16 you would have to write:
8(2+2)/2
Yeah my instinct is to say 1 with how it’s written. But its ambiguous
I just searched this up on google, theres so many videos and articles about this !
8 ÷ 2 (2 + 2)
Division:
4(2 + 2)
Multiplication:
8 + 8
Addition:
16
Zero my hero……………….the great Dr zen
So I checked BODMAS online, and 8/2(2+2) is the equivalent of writing 8 / 2 x (2 + 2). Division and multiplication rank equally, but you go from left to right.
8/2(2+2)
=8/2x4
=4x4
=16
I would have got that wrong on a test. I learned something new, thanks @firemonkey.
2/8 = 1/4
2+2 = 4 0r1/4
4/4 = 0
It’s somewhat ambiguous unless you insert additional parentheses to clarify the order of the operations.
8 ÷ (2 x (2+2)) = 8 ÷ (2 x 4) = 8 ÷ 8 = 1
(8 ÷ 2) x (2+2) = 4 x 4 = 16
P stands for parenthesis and B stands for brackets. I had two teachers that one did B and one did P. We are trapped between following USA and England. Lol us confused Canadians.

In common core, it’s whatever you feel you think it is
ba dum tss
TLDR: It is written ambiguously it should have been written as one of these two:
