right now I weigh 154, am thinking I would like to go up to 170 pounds. but still be lean. I’ve read a person can only expect to be able to put on 8 pounds of muscle a year if doing the right things. so realistically it would take me 3 to 4 years to get to a lean 170. also im thinking to make my legs bigger so I won’t be all in the upper body and I won’t look so big even though I would weigh 170 pounds. which is pretty big for a guy who is only 5’9.
I got up to 170 pounds about a year ago when I was getting a shot of Invega every 3 weeks, but it was mostly fat. I wasn’t working out at the time. so I ended up dieting and getting back down to 150 pounds.
First is to build muscle mass and then to maintain that muscle mass. Building muscle mass is harder than maintaining.
im tired of being the smallest guy in the house. going to get serious about it. im going to stop at 170 because my older brother who is an inch taller than me got up to like 200 pounds playing college football and now he is just fat…big belly. he’s 46 now and has stopped working out after a couple decades of taking care of his body.
Boogaloo I think you are too obsessed with your weight.
Resistance training. To build muscle, one must challenge the muscle to the point of failure. This will cause change in the muscle anatomy to enlarge and increase strength. For instance if you want to build stronger biceps, 1-3 sets of arm curls 2-3 times per week. The number of repetitions should be such that you cannot complete the last repetition. Yoga and pilates do not bulk you up but increase muscle endurance.
Priorities change when you’re in your 20s, 30s and 40s. There are also biological changes such as stamina, agility, strength and a host of other factors. This why professional athletes start in their 20s, reach their peak performance once at 30 and retire before reaching 40.
whatever im genetically gifted when it comes to building muscle. im going to get up to 170 pounds and take my shirt off and throw it in everybody’s lazy face all summer. maybe even start dating again.
I’m building muscle too. But I’m over 200 now because of this meds
