He or she is a person. They is multiple people. That is no different than they. It’s using a word improperly to use that or they for one purpose. That is why I used that. It’s not like I called them thing.

No, that means an object and you can call one person they not just multiple people as well. If you called me that I would probably point it out as well. Like you could be talking to someone about your friend and say “They just had a bad day”. lol I think you are getting confused.

The English language and grammar is quite fluid. It is regularly updated to include new uses.

“They” is commonly used these days for someone who is gender fluid or gender non-binary.

That sounds like slang English. I don’t know I didn’t major in English.

I dont think it is slang, how would you say “They just had a bad day” if you were talking to a friend about another friend.

He/she had a bad day.

Works as well, but I am pretty sure it is not slang.

That doesn’t work if a person identifies as neither she nor he.

Also, when you’re in a situation like on the internet with anonymous users, one often has no idea what gender the user identifies with. I always use “they” in this case.

I just checked, were both right. It refers to 2 or more people or someone previously mentioned.

Who woke up one day and decided they(lol) wanted to be called they?

It sounds like pc culture in over drive. I don’t understand gender fluidity. You’re either he or she. That’s even true for trans. There are no studies that show the brain can be both male and female. A they is really just curious. Do most eventually choose to identify as a man or woman?

it’s best to use ‘you’

That only makes sense if the person that prefers to go by they is the person you’re talking to

I don’t think you should make these kind of statements.

Why? I’m trying to learn.

You are making general statements.

I agree with @anon78876561

You’re being really ignorant and rude right now. You need to stop.
