They say kids grow up fast nowadays

But I think in a way kids are also more immature…

Like for example my step son is still obsessed with stuffed animals and he’s about to be in 4th grade… I was not still into stuffed animals at this age… we want to get him into 4-H because this is the same grade I joined 4-H but I honestly don’t think he can handle the responsibility of taking care of an animal…

I still had stuffed animals up until a year ago or so. I wouldn’t hold him to the same standard as others. People all learn and grow differently. He’s fine with liking plush toys. He’s not harming anyone. He’s fine.

I’d also say, I’m more mature than most people I know. It’s not a sign of immaturity, more of a sign of a lack of connection.

I still have stuffed animals. One of them goes with me to my hospitalizations.

My daughter turns twenty next month and she still likes stuffies. Now they’re just of they mythical variety (e.g. a lovely Cthulhu from @twialine). I think this is okay. My kid is also a 4Her and I’m a former 4H project leader. She wasn’t in a single project with animals and I think that’s also okay? Princess Pixel was especially partial to photography and public speaking (she cleaned up medals with the latter). I’d say put the kid in 4H, but don’t expect him to be a carbon copy of you. Let him do his own thing there.

He said he wants to show sheep though… I just don’t think he’s ready…

Maybe the first year he can just be in the club and see how much he likes it/find out what he’s into.

My kid wanted to do beef. We had her help another member who was doing beef. Mine quickly learned that she wasn’t a fan of manure and that was that. You can always pair them.

Yeah I was thinking if he at least joined the club he’d get to see what handling/showing the animals was really about… then he might change his mind😅

Having a steer cough and shoot liquid poop on you will do that. No one is ever getting me onto a ranch again for the rest of my life.

:joy: true that…

Or getting stepped on by a beef cow or rammed by one🙃 that’s what happened to me.

I think they are exposed to a lot more things but I’m not sure that translates into maturity

Kids are exposed to so much more at a younger age today than they were when I was young. The skin mag’s did not start showing full frontal nudity until I was about fourteen years old. I sometimes wonder what kind of person I would be if I hadn’t been exposed to explicit pornography when I was young. I’m not saying it is good or bad, but it did have an effect. Kids grow up in a different world today.

You don’t want to know.

It was maturity fodder for my generation, when the internet first became a thing.

Did you ever go on omegle or that other site that let you video chat with complete strangers?

That was a thing when I was younger on the internet…

Probably 2008 or so.

Yess. I was on AIM too, after AOL. ^.^

I had to have a discussion with my daughter about it when she was ten and in grade five. Classmate showed everyone some XXX pr0n on his iPod. Got her past it and she’s a healthy young adult. Seems to have good relationships and expects men will treat her as a person and not property or a plaything.

I checked. It’s nothing bad.

It sometimes strikes me that there are full grown adults around who have never known a time when there wasn’t so much free sex. Again, I’m not judging. I’m just observing. But they must have a very different perspective than I had when when I was young.

Used to be. Ever seen carnage from a train wreck? What it looks like when someone jumps out of a window, and is impaled on a pike? What about something actually gory? Lol yeah… I’m sure it’s tame nowadays.
