Therapeutic communities, deciding if I should join one

I am looking at this one:

Spirit of Gheel seemed to be a good choice on the list I looked at:

I am trying to start a community near a city in Virginia, but I have been thinking that I should try an established therapeutic one first, to learn more about my condition and cognitive impairments.
What should I do to decide better what I should do next? What questions should I ask?

Just be wary of cults, I’m not saying they are one, it’s just that we are easy targets. Hope it all goes well for you though.

that sounds like a safe idea… you’ll have a facilitator who knows what Sz and it might be very informational. I get leery of cults and people who “wing it” too.

It can really set you back to get in with a group that doesn’t know squat.

I’d say also talk to your doc or a hospital that knows where some well run supported groups are. There was one that I went to for a while where a doc himself facilitated it.

He was an intern, but it was run through the hospital and so it wasn’t some fly by night cult thing.

There are days I ask myself the following question

“Would Scientology make me feel better about myself”?

Choosing a belief system comes down to choosing between percieving the truth and percieving the world in a way that veils the truth and makes you “feel good”. I am the type to be devoted to truth and eternal realities rather than transient veiled perceptions of reality. There was a time when life was easy to understand but now I know that it was an illusion of simplicity. Reality is complex and it should be. sorry, this is a long response to a statement.
