The world is a small place

One can travel anywhere around the world within 48 hours. The Internet has allowed communication from one part of the world to any other part of the world if both parties are connected online. There is still a language barrier between many regions around the world.

It is soooo big but soooo small.

Even before we had access to the internet the world was still a small place. Back in the 80’s I boarded a plane in Australia also carrying passengers that had boarded in the UK. The plane was bound for New Zealand.

I eventually arrived at my destination, a friends house in a very small country town near the bottom of the South Island.

Would you believe that a woman was also at my friends house. That woman was from the UK and had travelled on the same place as me going to the exact same friends house in New Zealand.

What were the chances of two people from opposite sides of the globe travelling to a dirt bag town that is not even on the map, to the same friend?

Randomness and statistical probability states that the likelihood of the scenario you just described may occur 1/1000 or 1 out of 1000 attempts. There is no relationship between you and that friend nor did Event A (the flight) have any correlation with Event B (meeting at the common friend’s home in that town).

Yes I am wondering. There are 8 billion people in the world that is 8 million million. Yet in the internet I see in different places sometimes the same people I have seen from another place.

When I went to college I met people from all over the world. I loved it

What do you mean that I am too intelligent for my own good?

“for your own good” is something we say here in the USA. I just basically mean that you’re very intelligent

There are very bright & intelligent people in the USA as well. Otherwise, America wouldn’t be the world hegemon as it is today. As for my own intelligence, I am at the bottom of the tier compared to the more intelligent Chinese compatriots in China.

I think we are basically calibrated to the size of the world. Before civilization, by foot we can survive without water just long enough until by chance we find another water place. And in a life by foot you could also end up anywhere in the world.

You speak English as if you were educated at Harvard. (Harvard is a famous American university that is considered the intellectual elite.)

I think  people across cultures have been mixing for a good while (because of trade, war, slavery etc)

Only those Chinese who are well politically connected with the Chinese government and well financially supported can enter Harvard University such as the daughter (Xi Mingze - 习明泽) of the current Chinese President (Xi Jinping - 习近平). I am content to the education I have received as any higher education is better than no education at all.
