The King of Patrogania suffers from complete retrograde amnesia after experiencing a severe head injury. He doesn’t remember who he is. To complicate matters, he’s been kidnapped by a rival faction intent on discrediting him and the monarchy. Taking advantage of his vulnerable state, they try to convince the King that he’s in fact a vicious pimp with a life-long passion for numismatics and large, flamboyant hats. The king, however, has become psychotic and developed a grandiose delusion: voices assure him that he’s the actual King of Patrogania. At first he’s trouble believing them, but concludes that he must be suffering from complete retrograde amnesia. Is he insane? Can someone be deluded into believing what is actually true?
Comes quite close to exploring the “delusion of true self”. Also, a classic of world drama.
As a concept it is interesting to me, but definately not as a spanish movie or poltical idea
It’s a great play, though. I happen to be a big fan of that period’s theatre, Spanish and otherwise.
