I sometimes think that a lot of the stigma stems from a ‘We must keep these people from having kids’ attitude. The paranoid part of me thinks it’s all a conspiracy to keep us down.

Most psych wards do not contribute to mental well being, I hated them and couldn’t wait to get released. The are boring places with bad food.
The only thing I know of that’s more broken than the mental hospital system in America is the criminal justice system.
Neither of them work the way they are supposed to, often doing more harm than good. I got assaulted twice in hospital, and a couple times was given a shot against my will that gave me akathisia for months.
