Just keeping you on your toes rogueone !
I’m bored
I’m reading a game book I found I could download on kindle…I’d stay for a chat but liasing with a mate down the cricket club who’se looking out for the wicket in a rain event. Trying to catch up on some reading and keeping an eye on the boards…The life of a mod involves a lot of reading to begin with haha. I’m trying to do both!
No problem. I will find something to do. Enjoy your game book and “wicket in a rain event” whatever that is
a Wicket is a cricket pitch. The block consists of several wickets or pitches and we have 3. Getting like a low pressure rain event in winter. Lots of sub tropical rain. Talking about an inch tomorrow and we need half a day of sun…meanwhile I’ve been going since monday to get the wicket ready for a game on sunday…
I’m sure that makes no sense to you
Hahaha. Not a whole lot. You did type that in English didn’t you?
Thanks for the effort to explain it though.
I love that no one knows about cricket! @ThePickinSkunk posted the other day they were going to watch a bit online…I’d be curious about what they think…It’s a slow, skillful game where you don’t really have to be any body type to do well. It’s very egalitarian like that and it’s nice to compete with people on an even level even when your mentally ill.
I’ve always loved playing baseball…I want to try cricket out one day. Seems like a fun sport @rogueone
Someday when I’m not so drowsy I might watch some youtube explanations of Cricket or something so I have a better understanding of what you mean. I’m curious now.
@TheCanuk . The really elite level cricketers are often great at baseball. Difference in cricket is you can hit the ball behind you and score 360 degrees around the field. It’s a similar skill set but the ball is way harder and no gloves. It’s simply your hands to catch and it’s similar in some skill. You can catch fly balls but your fielders have to cover the whole oval…and the ball usually has to bounce on the surface instead of being a full toss as we call them…
@Bowens . You can be impressed I’ve moved this whole thread over to the topic of cricket…???
A mods job is done!
Haha, yeah, nicely done
That actually sounds really entertaining.
I actually watched some highlights. It doesn’t look like they can control direction of hits well. An example would be in baseball you can aim for left middle or right. I think it more goes wherever in cricket. Is that accurate? I could see myself watching a full match.
The bat is flat so you have so much more control with your shots. It’s more skillful than baseball. The ball moves from swing like a curveball and off the pitch when it lands by seam movement. You wear pads because unlike baseball it’s perfectly acceptable to bowl at your opponent.
Everyone pretty much wears helmets these days so with that and boxes for your naughty bits, thigh pads, leg pads and others your not too well protected. Bruises are hard won but common.
So does the guy who throws the ball have to bounce it off ground? I take it not if you have to wear helmets.
I really like baseball. Seems like Cricket would be more entertaining.
Yeah they bounce it but if the ball is coming 90 miles an hour at your head it’s hard to compensate…it can be at your toes and full or at your head and short. It really is an interesting game and at the top level it goes for 5 days…It’s so much more interesting to me than baseball even though I can play that a little…cricket is a godo sport and yes…wear a helmet!
hey @rogueone do u get paid for being a mod

You learn to skim a bit but you spend time here. We are strictly volunteer and it’s a team effort.
Hmm. . .
Nice, Kind, Helpful, Hopeful Way To Put It I Would Say. . .
