The new pdoc seemed incompetent - he had no clue

He was suggesting I go on antidepressants, but the last time I went on one I ended up with psychosis. I remember it clearly and the pdocs at the time agreed. This one thinks its not a common side effect an tried to prescribe me one again. I refused. But I’m not too sure if diazipam was such a good idea for me to agree to.

Diazepam is a benzo… short term use is ok, but after a while you can get addicted.

I know thats why I wish I agreed to Promethazine the alternative he suggested.

One has to advocate for oneself.

Technically not “addicted” but “dependent”. There is a difference.

I’ve been on clonazepam for over a year. I’m almost certainly dependent on it now, but I don’t care, I need it to help me sleep.

I’m sorry but if this guy suggested that you go on antidepressants then he is a grade A Moron.

I’m glad that you refused and I strongly suggest that you find someone else fast!

My pdoc’s PA kept pushing for ADs. I’ve just given in because I don’t know what else to do. I admittedly don’t understand her push, though; they’ve caused mania in me before. We’ll see how this goes.

I’m on diazepam. I’m prescribed 10 mg 3x/day, but how much I take varies. I may take 3 a day for a little while if I’m struggling, but reduce to just at night when I feel better. I haven’t suffered side effects from the fluctuation, as far as I’m aware. That might be different if I got off it completely, but I’d taper. I managed to taper off of opioids after a few years on them when I was in my early 20s. No long-term issues from that, thank goodness.

Fortunately, he’s a locum so it’s likely I will see someone else again next time.

I’ve been prescribed it for as and when. I don’t plan to use it. I just plan to get a job that doesn’t cause too much anxiety .

I’m sza, bipolar type and I take an AD everyday: Celexa, albeit a small dose, 20 mg. I’ve been on it for over a decade and it has never made me manic-psychotic.

I occasionally take Klonipin 0.5 mg as needed for insomnia or anxiety. I generally try not to take it for sleep but its awfully hard not to.

Good luck, @anon25873142! Do you know what you’d like to do for a job?
