The drug in question

#1

So you all are reading my story. Does anyone know anything about niacine? This is the med in question.

#2

Do you mean niacin, without the e on the end? That’s more like a vitamin than a drug.

#3

Yes I need more info on this vitamin

It helps moderately, but it’s not a full cure. I take it from time to time.

Reason it helps is that it tilts the metabolism of tryptophan away from kynurenic acid by increasing the production of kynurenine 3-monooxygenase, which is an enzyme that causes tryptophan to form other metabolites.

Kynurenic acid is one of the culprits behind schizophrenia. By acting as a potent NMDA antagonist, it causes schizophrenic symptoms.
