The Dark Side Of The Internet

I think I’ve seen barely the surface of the dark side of the Internet. I’ve seen a lot of gore on a subreddit. Like seriously ■■■■■■ up gore. I would look at it for kicks when I first became psychotic. I was in touch with darkness back then.

So? You are supposed to ‘eat the shadow’ in the Jungian viewpoint. This is only a danger if it’s unconscious, but most people take the Internet with a huge gain of salt. My analyst found the subject of trolling very interesting and possibly therapuetic.

The Shadow is everywhere, in literature, movies, urban legends and everyday speech. Why shouldn’t it be on the Internet? The problem most have with their Shadows is they don’t acknowledge or embrace and make friends with it/them.

I’m sorry but I’m seeing a bit of “pseudo-analyzing” and misapplication of Jung’s theories in this article-- might be the writer’s Shadow talking . Or maybe it’s mine…

This is the dark side of the internet, people suffering through illness.

Trolls and scammers flock here. We are easy prey.

Jung was a ■■■■■■ idiot.

& i think he was about the greatest humanitarian of the last century & about 300 years ahead of his time.

If it’s all based on ego, and mirror reflections on the “Self”

what good is that for humanity?

They were psydo shrinks who wanted to psycho analyze everything. F- it.

How much of Jung have you read/studied? The OP points out in a simple way one archetype.

To refer to one of the primary founders of modern Western psychology as a ■■■■■■ idiot, given his calibre, i find slightly odd.

Here are great humanitarians:

Gandi

Mother Teresa

Bishop Tutu

Jesus Christ

John the Baptist

Sir Walter Ralegh

Benjamin Franklin

They were all ■■■■■■ idiots.

This whole thread is frigging stupid, starting from your quote on Jung.

I totally disagree with his analysis.

It’s Not his analysis - it’s a random internet article using a basic interpretation of the shadow archetype.

I’m done talking to you. If you want to help humanity maybe you should study shadow government.
We live in a more complex time in history than what is based in the mind.

i’ve looked into it a lot. Have studied many subjects. You don’t know what Jung said/wrote, so how can you pass comment?

Take away your mind & what do you have?

I’ve found that I do less projecting on the internet than I do in real life. In face to face conversation there is so much more ambiguity because body language and inflection are absent. On the internet what you see is what you get.

Projection and the power of people in large groups.

That’s an interesting remark, in part it is true. Certainly institutions these days are vast collections of knowledge and process which stand apart from any one mind and have their own presence and momentum, much like memes which exist in the book space.

But the starting point, the place where these things ultimately live and affect reality, is the individual mind. As a being you are more complex than that, but the process of growing, educating and managing ones mind is a key part of our lives, and from the perspective of that single person, much more important than institutions or memes. Most people have trouble even doing that much.

The rest of it, intstitutions and memes, is a wild growth proliferating through society and cyberspace, it is not well managed or cultivated. Certainly there is no one person or group of people who even have an overview, much less a managerial capability. It’s a worry. What will happen when AI comes along?
