I thought about what was the best first word to start with and realized maybe I should look at this as a math problem, so I came up with this idea. I looked up the most commonly used vowels and consonants used in the English language, then used those letters to see what words I could make. “tears” is a good one. Statistically more likely to get greens and yellows on your first try.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary the top 10 most commonly used letters are, in order:
Vowels: E - A - I - O
Consonants: R - T - N - S - L - C
Tip: Start with words that use those letters.
Disclaimer: Using those letters, over time, your stats should improve, but on any given day it’s possible the daily wordle may not use any of those letters.

Got it in 3 today.
Oh i made a wordle rating system like golf lol. At work we use it 
1 = Eagle
2 = Birdle
3 = Pardle
4 = Beagle
5 = Turtle
6 = Blurdle

I suppose there are multiple sources that have different letters and how common they are.
The top ten most common letters in the Concise Oxford English Dictionary , and the percentage of words they appear in, are:
E – 11.1607%
A – 8.4966%
R – 7.5809%
I – 7.5448%
O – 7.1635%
T – 6.9509%
N – 6.6544%
S – 5.7351%
L – 5.4893%
C – 4.5388%

I’m enjoying the game at the moment, but think over time it will go the same way scrabble has for me.

The 6 letter Wordle 2s are killing me. I guess I have to save those for when I have a little more time to sit and think. I never spend more than a minute or so on the puzzles.

That’s the kind of thing that will put me off the game. For me it should be about natural verbal ability combined with a degree of luck.
