The curse which followed the gift

first thing : i remember some article about schizophrenia saying that it affects metaphorical thinking.

I am not sure how that applies to you guys, but i still understand it, i barely used it since i was a kid.

Can you still understand metaphors ?

like this one :

I have the gift of having everything i need but the gift turned into a curse which blinds me of seeing what i have.

“Her lovely voice was music to his ears.”

The metaphor is comparing her voice to music…for his ears. Unless of course it was her singing voice. Then it’d be a straight forward non metaphor.

“Her lovely singing voice was great music, to his ears”

Is not a metaphor

i only see the word music being the word which gives the sentence the mataphor status

I had a problem with metaphors and analogy

I am slow at catching metaphors and sometimes even jokes.

I’m an English major, metaphors are our bread and butter.

Laughter is the best medicine.

Let’s bridge the gap between us.

Stuff like that. I don’t understand how the illness could make metaphors harder to understand, but maybe that’s because I was schooled in metaphor for several years.

The egg hatches at midnight.

Metaphorically speaking it means that the plan begins tonight.

Is that a metaphor?

Yeah I think it qualifies. Unless you add the word “like,” then it becomes a simile :open_mouth:

What if I’m smiling and I like it? Does it still simile?
