I lived in Japan when 9/11 happened. I was in the Marines. We were asleep when the first one hit. My sister and law called and woke us up.

I saw the second one hit. One of my instructors in flight school was the pilot on one of those planes. He was a good dude.

I got dressed and went to work. We were on high alert for years.

I was also the first helicopter on scene at USS Cole bombing. Those sailors fought hard to save that ship.

There was this show on our public tv channel called Blah Blah Blah. It was like a topical comedy show mixed with some journalism commentary and interviews. It was pretty good and the host was always talking about his favourite band Lubricated Goat.

Thought it was a stich up but a couple of shows in they did a program on Censorship. It was funny as they worked around the swear filter by talking to an academic. That was wild enough but later the host says here’s my favourite band…

So there’s this band on stage wearing nothing but socks and the lead singer with a hat. They were totally wasted and started miming their song called In The Raw. Classic stuff with lyrics like " Your touching my personal things again, going through my sock drawer ". Funny as before they started dancing around and flashing their gear at the audience. It was so funny. They censored little bits with like these hands but every now and then you got an eye full of the bands junk.

Still one of the funniest things I ever saw on live tv. They made a documentary about it because they got that many complaints from the public because all these old folks watched the ABC as it was a respected network. So funny. I laughed for an hour because I just couldn’t believe they did it.

9/11. Challenger explosion. Beslan school siege, just to name a few. Not sure if crazy is the right word. Awful is more like it.

Probably the beginning of war between Russia and Ukraine.

We, people in Lithuania were sure, that we are next who’s gonna be attacked next in the next few days.

We need more peace in the world.

I think this was during the late 1980’s or early 1990’s. It was a special on TV by Geraldo Rivera called ā€œAl Capones Vaultā€. It was a live show and the premise was that they had torn down this old hotel in Chicago or Detroit run by the famous mobster Al Capone and discovered a huge vault under the hotel. Geraldo Rivera was a journalist who had a flair for the dramatic and controversial stories. He was a good looking guy with a huge mustache who made a name for himself on TV.

In this ā€œAl Capones Vaultā€ Rivera purported that Capone had perhaps stored millions of dollars in cash or jewels or gold. No one really knew what was in it but it was built up and built up as a bulldozer slowly unearthed a vault. A crew of workers started digging and Rivera was reporting this every step of the way. Really playing it up.

Well, millions and millions of people watched on TV as after two hours of constant dramatic buildup speculating what was in this vault they finally opened it-and found nothing. A couple bottles and some trash. It was such a letdown but it was a high rated program for Rivera, his highest ratings he ever got and he’s still on TV.

I even had a dream I was in that tsunami afterwards.

It was insane.

I remember I was at my friend’s place when the 9/11 was shown in TV. It was shocking and could not believe my eyes.

The 9/11 attacks. I tried joining the British army afterwards but got turned down. I remember leaving the medical centre and walking into London and there was a huge anti war demonstration.

Was anyone alive and in Chicago when the Max Headroom signal hijacking happened?

That would be cool!

I was really little, but I remember watching the news with my family when the Berlin wall chaos was happening because my dad was a journeyman and was working in Germany at the time. That was the first big news thing I remember. After that was all the Bill Clinton being gross stuff, then 9/11 then who knows because there chaos never stopped after that.

The first time I saw porn on tv was at a friend’s house in high school. We got home from school and he was just eating lunch and talking to a friend on the phone with porn as background noise. It was super weird haha

Oh and the aftermath of Columbine.
