Teriyaki sauce for an alcoholic

I never really had it before but I tried a chicken/rice teriyaki microwave meal and thought:

I must have more! Lots more !

But I checked the ingredients and it has rice wine.

I assume there was actually enough rice wine to trigger my alcoholic “i must have more” reflex.

So I won’t be having it again.

I had no idea that teriyaki sauce has rice wine in it. I googled it and, yup, traditional Japanese teriyaki sauce typically has rice wine (mirin) and also sake in it.

Does it have msg (mono sodium glutamate) in it?

I was worried about eating a traditional beef stew because one of its ingredients is red wine but they tell me the wine burns off in the cooking.

The amount of alcohol left after the cooking and canning process is negligible and should not trigger cravings. I have cooked with rice wine for years with no cravings, nor from cooking wine or sherry.

This was a ready meal, so it’s difficult to say how much rice wine made it to the plate. It certainly triggered cravings though.

Teriyaki is cooked down so the alcohol is almost entirely removed as this happens. It is also canned at temperature, again reducing alcohol content. Trained as a saucier, that was my primary role when I worked as a chef. You can slurp a whole case without getting the slightest buzz. You’ll explode your stomach long before.

I eat carb smart ice cream that has sugar alcohols in it. It’s not actually alcohol though lol
