Surrogate mother?

Since going on meds I’ve had the problem where a period or vitamin deficiency is enough to throw me into mood swings and nausea and make me want to commit suicide out of sickness. How bad is having a baby? Am I panicking? Also my aunt says at least in China at advanced hositals you can now get a test tube baby that gets rid of bad genes like schizophrenia. Is it true? It’ll all cost a lot and I don’t even work. Oh god!!!

I don’t believe it’s currently possible to have a baby free of schizophrenia in a guaranteed way.
In any case if you wish, you can have kids despite the risk.
In any case no one forces you to have a baby.
It is your own decision.

If you want to have a baby,

Get healthier and have a baby.

Lots of people on the forum have kids,

No one has perfect genetics.

You don’t need to mess with test tubes and a surrogate mother ranges from about $40k-$100k.

I have 4 beautiful children! Every moment I’m thankful for them!

@GoldenRex You wouldn’t want to edit out a schizophrenia gene if the technology is available? That is what I’m suggesting is possible, some say, right now. It would definitely motivate me to have kids since schizophrenia is a lot of suffering. Also I’m wondering if anyone suffers like I do at the slightest hormone imbalance. I am really unable to “get healthy” and am worried I might try to commit suicide or get an abortion mid birth if things don’t go right.

@anon62973308 I don’t believe it is possible, the causes of schizophrenia are not clear
and it is a very complex disorder.
Gene editing is at its infancy, and even if it’s available I believe the best that is currently possible
is just to lower the risk somewhat.
Still @anon62973308 you should not worry about it, even if schizophrenia is not entirely preventable but
you want to have a kid, or multiple kids by all means go ahead.

I understand your concerns,

I have a son and worry about his mental health all the time.

Its likely not possible right now to “edit out” much of anything,

And if it were, why not “edit out” big noses, or mousy colored hair?

Messing with genetics is dangerous.
