The clinical symptoms of the complicated subtype of HSP may include cognitive impairment, epilepsy, neuropathy, ataxia, or extrapyramidal symptoms. These symptoms often overlap with other neurodegenerative diseases. Among the complicated subtypes, spastic paraplegia with parkinsonism can present with HSP as well as with other diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) and dopa-response parkinsonism (3-9).
