I wanted to know if anyone has ever had this before. I’d say its more of a distortion/illusion than a true hallucination. Sometimes when I see someone from far away, it can appear as if the person’s face is either completely distorted or strange looking, or that they are wearing a mask or something. Upon getting closer to that person, or them getting closer to me however, I’ll then see their face as normal.
I get that only they don’t have to be far away they can be right in front of me too. Their face can float in front of their head like a mask. Or shrink on their head. Or otherwise just warp and look totally ridiculous. It is very silly when it happens and ends up giving me the giggles so I look like a weirdo. Just go with it lol.
Omg I get this too but I didn’t realise it was a perceptual thing. I thought there was something wrong with my vision. I get it if I’ve been talking to someone for a long time and having to concentrate on their face, their face starts to look bigger than it should, almost like a balloon. And then I can’t look at them anymore. Can be very hard to keep up a conversation when it happens.
Happens to me too! Without glasses lol. With glasses the distance increases to where I can’t see the face and it’s distorted again.
Look at this picture up close, then look at it again from far away.

The up close, and the distant, use different parts of the brain for visual processing.
Whoa that is super weird! I stepped back and it looks like Marilyn Monroe (and Einstein upfront).
I get this too, only it’s not just faces. The other day I saw a guy fixing his bike, but really it was a large oval sign when I got closer (not even a lot closer, like 20 ft)
Who would have ever thought that Marilyn Monroe and Einstein were one in the same. LOL
