Stopping SSDI

I’m on a different continent but I went back to work and over here you could put your benefits on hiatus for the max of two years. Helped me a lot because I became unstuck and went back on the pension without any dramas.

For that American system I’d be asking a lawyer specializing in social security just what your options are if you become unstuck. I know it costs money but sounds like a good investment for yourself and situation!

Please keep us posted on any more updates about how your situation is going @TomCat, this is really good to know.

I would love to find a job that would pay me for what I could do, but the job market has changed so much since I last worked in 1998, heck, we didn’t use a cash register/scanner, and even had an ancient rotery phone in the shop.
Doubt this fossil would be worthy of any useful work, but I’m scared of all the headlines about SS going broke.

The stress it places on me is not
helpful…

Social Security sent me a form to fill out telling them about my work. I already gave them my paystubs. I will fill it out though and mail it back. It says I have 15 days to do it.

Do you enjoy working? Does the stress affect you mentally?

It keeps me busy. It’s a lot though. Don’t have time for much else.

Ya. It’s pretty cool. I got hired with 5 other people and so far I am faster than every one else in getting their work done. I have only been at it a few weeks though.

I hope I make it through the first year of probation. Then I am permanent and it’s hard to get fired after that and I get a good raise. Right now I am under paid in my opinion but it’s okay for now. Especially since this is a new field for me I am okay with it. Plus I am disabled so I can’t be too choosy.

Thanks.

When I look up my disability in my personnel file I am a code 91 which stands for significant psychiatric disorder I think so they know I am disabled and they still hired me. I didn’t hide anything and they know I am on Medicare and don’t need insurance.

This is my code. I self identified.

91- Significant Psychiatric Disorder, for example, bipolar
disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, or major depression

What? Yeah, I went off for a year or so, and then went back on it

it’s called trial work period. Good luck with it.

I already used up my trial work period. I am going off for real.

I filled out the form for social security. They wanted pay stubs again. I already gave them that. We will see what they say in a couple weeks I guess.

Dropped it in the mail.

I still got my SSDI this morning. I am going to save it. They are going to want it back unless they give me another 9 months. That would be nice. Haven’t gotten a letter yet and I am outta town till the 21st. Hope they don’t send me something else I have to fill out while I am gone.

I get emails for what I am getting in the mail. I think they call it informed delivery and I got a letter from Social Security today.

I am going to see if my wife can scan it or take pictures of it and send it to me.

Hopefully I don’t have to fill anything out and send it back in.

My wife sent me the letter. It says I won’t get paid from June on. I guess the payment I got today was for May or maybe I have to pay this one back. I don’t know.

It says I am in the extended period of eligibility which lasts at least 3 years. If I make less than SGA I will get my payment but I am making much more than that so I won’t get SSDI anymore.

They didn’t tell me much about Medicare just that for now it continues.

They say I am making almost $8000 a month. That isn’t nearly right but I am still over SGA. I make about half of that. Their math skills could use improvement.

SGA is $1120

I’ve read you can keep your medicare after coming out of disability for 9 years or something close to that.

My insurance company says it’s 8 1/2 years and I have to keep it to keep my primary insurance. Once it expires I have to resign up for the regular insurance I had before I got Medicare and send them proof my entitlement to Medicare ended.

I didn’t take a health plan with the new job. Medicare is much cheaper. My other insurance is free to me. Just have a $300 deductible. With Medicare and Tricare for Life I don’t ever have to pay any copays or anything. Of course the VA is free too but if I need to be seen in a hurry the insurance is nice.

That all sounds good @TomCat!
