So I was speaking to someone that got upset with me about my mentioning that I am amoral. They started telling me that I was a horrible person for being so selfish. I tried to explain to them. I may have no idea the concept of good or bad, but that doesn’t mean I will choose to be destructive. I know what works and what doesn’t work. I have studied and learned enough behaviors that are beneficial, that I am fine. What is wrong with being amoral?
Is it your sociopathy that makes you unable to differentiate good from bad?
Well…I guess if you are amoral you risk crossing people because you are not following the normal unwritten rules of society like have courtesy and calculating the outcome your decisions and how you act will influence your fellow human beings, etcetera.
I don’t think it’s wrong to be amoral if that’s just how you are unintentionally, but it is not normal or accepted to be so openly in society. Because being so means you might be making decisons on the expense of others or the society as a whole.
As a example if you don’t recycle your garbage, that might be considered a amoral act because you are not willing to do something for your “neighbour” or society.
I too have done a few amoral acts in my past, I think most people have. Nobody is perfect. But the ideal is to strive to be as little amoral as possible. Our whole legal system and etiquette is built to protects us from amorality.
Bottom line is there are certainly millions of amoral people in the world, but most of them try to hide it because it’s not considered a good quality to display.
Possible. I have always gone with what works for the benefit of all. I try to take everything into consideration. It’s tough because I really don’t feel or have the ability to feel what is good or bad, right and wrong. I just do what is less destructive and take it from there.
That must be so hard on you. But you know what? You’re still doing what’s right by thinking about the greater good and that’s awesome
