SSI Payments to increase by 2% in 2018

Saw this on my FB feed, so I thought I would go to the social security administration’s website.

The 2% increase is the largest COLA increase since 2012. A SSDI check of $1,000 will increase to $1,020

That’s pretty awesome. I’m sure a lot of people who are retired and/or on disability can really use the COLA increase.

@Montezuma

Yeah, every dollar counts.

Last year’s COLA increase was 0.3%, and the year before was 0%, so this really is great news for many people.

The price of food has gone up at least that much not to mention, energy costs, housing costs (increased property taxes and increased rent). It will be hard for many to make it on SSDI alone in the next 10-20 years.

I read that too.

Its a very small increase,

But like what @kindness said,

For a lot of people depending on those checks, every dollar counts.

It’s been my experience that other things that many of us SSI recipients deal with rise enough in price to eliminate the difference. But I guess if you are not on things like Section 8 and food stamps this may well be an improvement for you. I will have to say that it will probably decrease in the future considering what is being proposed by the White House and in Congress.
