If anyone is interested, some of my songs relating to schizophrenia and substance abuse can be found on the Reverb Nation website. Just check out Trash Martyr. Hope this is okay to post.
Is that you singing? It’s cool! I like it. Thanks for sharing.
Can you post some of the lyrics?
Yes, it’s me singing, probably around 2007. To be honest, I haven’t tried to sing again since a little while after that recording, so I’m really out of practice. Last time I tried again, I sounded awful. I did all of the drum machine programming, guitar and bass too. But I sold my drum machine and recording stuff years ago, so I haven’t really written or recorded stuff since then either. Thanks for your reply. It’s nice to get feedback from others who have the same diagnosis, I always thought that most people wouldn’t understand anything I wrote about. I’ll post some lyrics when I get the chance.
Oh wow, you made all the music too?
You’re wicked talented!
Thanks you for your kind words. After I was diagnosed I learned that it was better not to talk about being a musician, especially when I was in the hospital, cause everyone seemed to automatically think I was delusional or that my memories were just false. I was afraid to mention anything I did music-wise for years. It’s probably something that other people had experienced at different times too, for similar stuff or other reasons. Everything changes after experiencing symptoms and especially after being diagnosed. But you learn to cope and do whatever you can to get better and improve your situation. As long as you don’t give up.
You’ve got a good attitude!
Thanks again. Hope you’re doing well too.
‘Shards’ got a cool chord progression. Where and how did you learn to compose?
I started writing my own stuff as soon as I learned the two basic bar chords (E-string, A-string). Learned how to write from figuring out approximations of songs in my record collection. I never learned any proper technique or music theory. These songs were just random stuff for me, but if there was an intended audience, it was for others who suffered from schizophrenia and similar metal illnesses. Thanks for taking the time to listen and post your feedback.
