My dad knocked my phone off the kitchen table at their house a few days ago. I already had a couple cracks but now it looks like Michael J Fox tried to play tic tac toe on my phone with a carving knife.
Anywho, when , on the very rare occasion, the landline phone went out, you just went to the store, got a new one and plugged it in.
With these cell phones you have to either join a plan and go through the maze of tasks to try to get your number transferred or buy your own phone and switch the little chip out. And you have to do it quick because you only have one of them and will miss a zillion calls. Most homes had multiple landlines, so if one had the rare problem, you could just use the other.
Also, you could go buy a new landline for like 20 bucks…without a plan , new cell phones could costs hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Plus, bad reception sometimes…
There of course is the advantage of mobility and internet access and such.
But sometimes I think I might like to have a landline and a cell, not just a cell.
I miss landlines. My parents had a landline with a short cord, but they replaced it with a much longer cord. I could go into a different room and still talk on the phone.
It gave me the idea that I could talk on the phone no matter where I was if the cord was long enough. Sort of like a semi, indirect cellphone. All I needed was a cord about 25,000 miles long. I could even talk on a plane if the airline would drill a hole in the plane so that I could feed the cord through, but then I thought that a phone cord stretching across the Atlantic Ocean at 36,000 feet may not be safe for the birds.
Just a joke, of course. I agree with you about landline phones, and early congratulations on your wedding !!
The advantage of land lines is the system has its own power source. Works when regular power is knocked out. Of course, so many of the calls are routed over the Net now that you may only have a connection to your local exchange.
What you need is a ST:TOS Bluetooth communicator. Better than a landline. Unfortunately they’ve sold out and it’s not known if they are making more. Mine is not for sale, so don’t bother asking.
