I work part-time now. But as I found that I have more deficits than I expected, I sometimes would think maybe I should give up my job, live on social assistance and avoid meeting my old friends. If I live on social assistance, all my old friends would have a much higher purchasing power than I do. It would be hard to socialize with them.

Just do what’s best for you. Maybe make a pros cons list and look at evidence and then make a decision. There is something fulfilling in having a job. However, if it’s too difficult on your mental illness, do what you need to do. Best of luck

Even if you go on assistance you don’t have to give up your friends. I am on disability and make far less than my friend who works a good-paying job but we still are able to meet up for coffee or lunch once in a while. You have to figure out what works for you and go with it.
