Something cynical came up when I was journaling

“I’m afraid of reality. I’d rather be in this terrible hell than face that terrible hell.”

Goes back to whether reality is benevolent or not. Are we psychotic pts afraid of facing what we mistake as reality when in reality, reality is on our side? Mind blown lol.

I’d like to think that the big “r” Reality/God is on our side. Friendly. Approachable.

Is the Universe Friendly?
–by Albert Einstein

"I think the most important question facing humanity is, ‘Is the universe a friendly place?’ This is the first and most basic question all people must answer for themselves.

"For if we decide that the universe is an unfriendly place, then we will use our technology, our scientific discoveries and our natural resources to achieve safety and power by creating bigger walls to keep out the unfriendliness and bigger weapons to destroy all that which is unfriendly and I believe that we are getting to a place where technology is powerful enough that we may either completely isolate or destroy ourselves as well in this process.

"If we decide that the universe is neither friendly nor unfriendly and that God is essentially ‘playing dice with the universe’, then we are simply victims to the random toss of the dice and our lives have no real purpose or meaning.

“But if we decide that the universe is a friendly place, then we will use our technology, our scientific discoveries and our natural resources to create tools and models for understanding that universe. Because power and safety will come through understanding its workings and its motives.”

“God does not play dice with the universe,”

My fave teacher Richard Rohr calls Albert Einstein the best dualistic and nondualistic thinker of history… and I’d have to agree.

Facing reality is hard but it makes life easier in many ways. But living in the real world is both hard and easy. The trick is face life on life’s terms (as AA puts it) but having hobbies or activities or other fun stuff to escape reality in a productive way for awhile. But our very disease robs many of us of knowing or facing reality which makes life harder. Isolating or taking illegal drugs seems like it makes life easier but in the long run it makes life harder.
