For reasons other than becoming a social worker, I’ve been taking an Intro to Social Work course this fall.
My teacher has been giving me positive remarks on my work like “masters level effort” etc. It had me thinking for a hot second about social work as a career, but then I started thinking about how stressful and demanding this work might be.
Has anyone here ever worked in social work in some capacity? Was it tough?
In one situation I was in an instructor in a reintegration course was a social work grad but said she was done with social work for good. I was assigned a social worker in the hospital I was just at, they help with stuff like social services registrations and getting IDs etc. There is a variety of work they do, some is complete admin other is complete emotional labour.
I think social work is sort of similar to being a police officer, or teacher.
It’s a very rewarding career, but it can also be a thankless job.
A lot of social work is helping people out who weren’t dealt the best hand in life so their life skills might not be up to par with yours or a lot of other people in society. And by that I mean people who have been victims of various types of abuses, the homeless, and drug addicts.
But if your heart is in it take everything we say with a grain of salt and follow your passion.
I admire people who help others out for their career.
