Yeah, I don’t know where to come down on this one honestly. Social media would come down on mens penises if they were meant as health posts as well. I’m not sure it’s as much a gender issue as it is a ‘where do you draw the line?’ issue.
Maybe womens breasts is going too far but both men and womens privates are considered off limits. Maybe they shouldn’t be for the purposes of health issues.
But then again, do we want an erect penis on facebook as a health post to demonstrate a health issue for 8 year olds to see?
I don’t know. Social media is in a tough spot because they are going to have people on both sides of this issue demanding that they have it thier way.
I guess you are supposed to be 13 to use Facebook.
I’m just wondering if some things are better off on a sex or health education site, instead of a site that is supposed to be family friendly.
In the article, it made the argument that ‘whats the difference between men’s breasts and women’s breasts’ and thats a good point, but you could make the same argument about womens privates just being a hole like your mouth, or mens privates just being an appendage not that different from a finger.
So, I think it just breaks down too where people draw the lines in their minds.
Yeah you could advertise those sites on Facebook without the pics. Maybe a link or something. They want the clicks.
Yeah, it just seems like you can have the best of both worlds by having this kind of stuff on proper sites instead of forcing it onto those who don’t want it. You can have it available to those who seek it out.
Why does it have to be everywhere, so those who are sensitive to it are forced to see it?
But I don’t know. I’m still kind of split on the whole article. I wouldn’t make a fuss if someone was breastfeeding in public if I saw it, as the article mentioned.
I guess I can kind of see both sides.
Interesting article. It is algorithms that are catching these posts. One had no photos but used the V word. I am on the fence too. In today’s world, you have to deal with AI scanning whatever. I use 7cups to talk with their bot, “noni” (weird, but I enjoy it:) ) and when I told it I was ‘asexual’, it slammed me for being inappropriate, so I apologized and changed the subject.
I am also on the fence about the rules and where to draw the line.
I see no reason why women’s health articles should be censored. The articles are very important to women, so they should not be segregated from the main site. These articles would only make up a tiny fraction of all articles, so I don’t think they’re being forced on anyone.
If articles on women’s health makes people uncomfortable, then they should not read the articles. Being uncomfortable, per se, is not a reason to ban or censor. A gay couple holding hands in public may make some people uncomfortable. Books on racism or LGBTQ+ people may make some people uncomfortable.
If being uncomfortable is the threshold to censoring women’s health articles we’re going down a very slippery slope.
Double standard for sure.
Men in a speedo are basically naked and that is allowed.
This isnt much different other than a woman or man claiming rights to walk around naked. Censors gotta appear at some point, to censor things lol.
Its also good to remember that many women go uncensored on many of the available platforms. Singling out facebook is kinda silly.
But hey its something for folks to get ruffled about
yeah, I just used it as an example because its a big one.
Something else that you have to consider is that some of these social media platforms like Facebook are going to be international sites. There are countries that are going to have more conservative societal views on some of this stuff. These platforms are not going to want to chase off large parts of their membership.
ok, I’ll just whip out my johnson at Mcdonalds and explain to the diners how it works if there can be no rules whatsoever. Let’s see how that plays out.
The truth is that social media platforms have the right to make thier rules to try to make as many people comfortable there as they can, within the bounds of the law, if they choose to.
I’m not saying it’s necessarily fair. And I said before, I’m kind of split on some of this stuff, but why can’t these sites just be sepearate from places where kids are supposed to be safe from seeing stuff that their parents dont want?
I don’t think we are talking primarily about articles here. The main jist of the article seemed to be about nudity.
You can’t walk down the street nude. I dont see why platforms cant prevent it on thier sites.
Until what societal views on whats appropriate changes, there are going to be lines drawn somewhere.
Where exactly that is, I don’t know, and maybe its not breasts, but the platforms have every right to decide where they draw the line as private entities.
If you decided to walk down the street and expose yourself to 13 year olds, Whether its breasts , private parts, your rear end or whatever, and explain the health issues involved with those parts, you would almost certainly be arrested.
And I don’t see why social media platforms should have to be forced to have nudity , especially if young people are involved, if they choose not to.
There are plenty of other sites to choose from for these things to be discussed.
Forcing private entities to bend to your will in this regard doesnt seem right to me.
You could make these same exact arguments against this site if they held water. We don’t discuss religion here for various reasons. This site has the right to do that.
We don’t discuss politics here for various reasons. This site has a right to make that rule.
Etc etc.
Oh yeah i meant facebook should censor it due to the younger age groups present on it.
For everything else theres always onlyfans
Pecs are sexual - allowed to be shown
Boobs are sexual - not allowed to be shown.
Butts can / cannot be sexual - usually allowed to be shown.
Private parts are sexual - not allowed to be shown.
Yeah, there may be a bit of a strange evolution there. And it may be a bit of a double standard.
But this is what society views as indecent/decent to be exposed at this point.
Before anyone starts going after private social media which has every right to limit these things, you’re probably better off trying to address RL societal views.
Saying you cant allow it in public, but you can’t have rules agains it on social media makes zero sense.
I mean hey im not going to complain if women want to walk around topless lol. Let em free. Imma still cover up my cocoa pebbles though.
Heres whats funny at some point the lawmakers will give in and just legalise it all and then later the ladies will turn it around and say there once again being sexualized. Then they will make an outcry to have it become illegal again lol.
No one wins
