Small Dosage Aripiprazole for Depression

Hi again,

I’m wondering if 10mg of Aripiprazole is too high a dose with effector for Depression? Would a smaller dose be worth staying at, say 5mg if I’m being treated for Depression and Anxiety/hypochondria/Functional/ Somaform disorder? I’m feeling a bit groggy on the 5mg. Just upped from 2.5mg to 5mg today. Was taking 2.5mg for a week.

Will stay on 5mg for a week, then up it to 7.5mg, then finally 10mg. I don’t want to be spaced out too much. I wonder should I ask my psychiatrist if staying at 5mg would be ok on top of the 150mg of efexor I’m already taking.

Don’t know how long my psychiatrist will want me on the Aripiprazole. How long usually does one stay on this, is it long term?

I think you’re asking the right questions. 5mg has been approved as an addon to an antidepressant. At 10mg it starts acting as an antipsychotic too.

Talk to your doctor.

The grogginess should go away as your system gets used to abilify though.

10 mg is a reasonable dose as an add-on, but you should talk to your doctor about your concerns.

In the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved product labeling for aripiprazole, the recommended initial dose for use as an adjunct to antidepressants for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adults is 2-5 mg/day. The recommended target dose is 5-10 mg/day, with a maximum recommended dose of 15 mg/day

Yes that’s what I was thinking that 10mg starts acting as an antipsychotic at 10mg. My psychiatrist doesn’t think I have any psychosis so I think I will just ask him if I can stay on 5mg with efexor. I don’t know if he will agree, but I’ll ask him.

I think 5mg is enough to be honest for depression.

If you’ve only been on 5mg for one day, how do you know it’s enough?

What happened to trusting your doctors?

Yes I read that when I was researching Aripiprazole. I think 5mg is enough for me but I have to talk to my psychiatrist about that. I don’t know if he is prescribing this just as an add on for depression. He probably is, so there should be room to keep the dosage at a low level. I already feel a bit groggy at 5mg. I don’t want to be spaced out too much if I can avoid a larger dose

That feeling should go away once you adjust to it.

Hi LED,

I did feel a bit of difference remember on 2.5mg. More alert! I’m finding after taking the 5mg, more groggy than I am. I will see how the 5mg plays out for the next six days.

LED,

I do trust my psychiatrist. I just need to ask him if it is reasonable enough to stay at 5mg. If he says no, I will go with the 10mg, but I’m just a bit wary of it being at 10mg for depression with the efexor 150mg as well.

Hopefully it will. I’m on my just getting used to it in my system I suppose. I think it’s a good medication for giving more alertness.

Remember you can always come back down again if it’s not working for you. What do you have to lose by trying? What if 10mg really does make you feel better?

Thanks. I will talk to him. I suppose he can adjust it on how I respond to it?

Is efexor do you know good with Aripiprazole? I used to be on Lustral. I wonder would Lustral be better to go back on because I have noticed if I miss one day on efexor my head gets very dizzy. I told my psychiatrist this and he did say if I wanted I could go back on the lustral. The dosage I was on with Lustral was 50mg daily for 10 years or more.

That’s true! What if it does make me feel really better!

I’ve nothing to lose I guess by trying the 10mg he recommended. As you say I can come back down. Thanks

Hi again,

Is Efexor a good antidepressant with Aripiprazole? Thing is I’m not sleeping until very late. I’ve always been up till all hours. Then I wake late most mornings and I’m supposed to take my Aripiprazole in the mornings my psychiatrist said. Once I get the tablet form I can bring it to bed with me and set my alarm to wake me up to take it early. I also take effexor in the mornings.

Maybe I will ask my psychiatrist if I can take the antidepressant in the afternoon or else take them both together. I wonder can I take both effexor and Aripiprazole together do any of you know.

Not due to see my psychiatrist until the first week in April. Should Aripiprazole like make me sleep better? It’s probably worn off by the time I go to bed anyway.

Woo-goo no sychosis since went from 30-20 mg of abilify…but am on another, ap, too

I don’t know why I’m like this. I don’t think nothing is making any sense to me the way I am.

hmmmm dr question not for me

Hypochondria my eye, I don’t think antipsychotic medications are used for that diagnosis. Is my psychiatrist for real.

He makes no mention of depression. I just don’t feel it’s depression at all. Will I ever be right again is all just so puzzling
