Should I leave this forum since I am not low functioning or a schizophrenic?

Someone replied this to me: If you’re not psychotic off meds, why are you taking them? For fun? To look cool? Slightly delusional? Are you stupid?

I am told I relapse within a sort time without meds.

if you’ve been psychotic once, you can be psychotic again. There really is no rhyme or reason for this sort of thing.
and after repeated psychosis your function may start to go down.
Thats my experience anyway.
I also deal with the manias and depressions. At one point I actually thought I was no longer having bipolar issues and that id never get mania again. well after 2-3 years without manias they came back and I keep going into hypomanias.

So what I am saying is these illnesses never go away, you just have to manage and prepare for the worst. Develop as many good coping strategies as possible. Take meds that help you.

Then you will be okay.

Blockquote
Everyone with sz/sza off meds will be floridly psychotic immediately
Blockquote

Well ‘everyone’ would include 100% of people so no not quite accurate.
but high probability.
Also for people who consistently take anti-psychotics for long time will inevetably have a high chance of having rebound psychosis due to brain chemical imbalance when withdrawing.

Should I stop taking meds?

why did you make an account on a schizophrenia forum in the first place if you are so sure you don’t have it. no point in asking should you leave or not as its your decision, no one is obligated to be here or post

Because a friend asked me to and I thought I could relate to the issues here bc they said so

im not a psychiatrist. Talk to your psychiatrist about these things. I am no way suggesting anything related to coming off meds. quite the opposite.

??? no, you are not stupid? Why would they say that? I’m NEVER going off of my meds. It’ll make the remission longer and longer. Also, it helps manage my depression.

they thought I was taking antipsychotics to look cool
Are they stupid?

WTF? Wow. Who said this to you?

someone on r/schizophrenia subreddit when they said that nobody in this forum is low functioning and I disagreed because here are obviously some low functioning people…

Oh, reddit…I hear you. Reddit can be a strange place. I say that from lurking on several forums on there.

i feel like i dont need meds since my experiences were nothing like the extreme experiences some people describe…

You are young and I can understand the doubt and the wish to be “free”. It is part of being youth. If you really feel like you could make it without drugs you should talk to your doctor and see if you can come to a arrangement.

If you feel that you get something out of being at this forum stay, and if you don’t leave. You don’t have to be sz to be here. I personally think there is something interesting here for most types of psychiatric illnesses, not just sz, but it comes down to what you think about it.

I will have to decide whether I get my shot or not before the Docs appointment (the shot is 30th but the doc 7th Oct)

There are a whole lot of different symptoms for mental illnesses. Some has it worse than others. I think what you should try to keep track of is if you feel like you are in control of your brain, meaning if thoughts start to pop up consistently that disadvantages you like for example delusions, hearing voices, the world stops on you because you are unable to think or you are otherwise not able to function. Those are some of the warning signs.

When you are on meds you will usually feel in control, but when you go off things can happen. But ofcourse you should try to go off at some point if you feel good. A family doctor told me that you can try to quit once a year if you have had no symptoms of mental illness for the previous year. I think that is a good guideline if you do want to try to go off. Just be careful whatever you decide.

Well my symptoms which the doctor calls delusions weren’t bad at all so idk when to worry about ”delusions”

So when I was told I had psychosis , I took the antipsychotics for 10 years… but I have not had a psychosis in that time. I only ever had one psychosis so they helped me come of meds as I was responding to treatment. I trusted them

I understand. Well it’s hard to tell for the person who it regards. When I have got sick after quitting meds I have been unable to understand that I was delusional before I got help. But it is different for everyone.

I’m not going to discourage you. Nothing is better than if you can make it without meds, and it is better to find out while you are young than later in some regards.

Basically I think you should tell your doctor what you tell us (in so many words) and let him decide. He is the only one that REALLY knows your situation.
