Should help the elderly by playing the banjo for them...but I do not

I posted this on facebook and several people offered to go with me so it may be doable…thing is…I don’t want to just go one time and give them false hope that things can be good for them…I expect since it’s bluegrass all the elderly will know the songs. I have a flatpicker guitarist wants to go with me and he is an old friend, but he doesn’t know that if I do this, I expect to go twice a month for years…what do you think, can I just go once and never do it again? heartless it seems…? Plus I think I would cry on stage…I love old people…it would break my heart to see all their faces watching me…

Try it once, then decide?

Old people get depressed and lonely especially when family doesn’t visit. It wouldn’t hurt to give them some attention if you have the opportunity to do so.
Make somebodies day it might be there last.

I think that is a beautiful idea, @jukebox. I volunteer with the elderly too. It is just as rewarding for me as it is for them. Probably more so for me, in fact.

People love concerts and understand it’s a once in a blue moon type thing. Also is it just me or do people use the word “treat” more than they used to… it would be that. Still I know what you mean and this reminds me of why I’m afraid of starting up at the animal shelter. It becomes “all or none” because we know we’d get a lot out of it. We freeze because it’s an enormous gift in our mind’s eye.

I’m fond of the elderly too bc I see a lot of parallels with being “socially poor”.

I don’t want to cry on stage…that would be too semi sweet to bear…I don’t think I can do it.

It’s ok if it’s once or many times. Regardless it’s something they’ll enjoy and appreciate. Go for it!

It would probably be good/healthy for you… You have a talent to share with people… so many people would like to give something besides writing a check and getting a form letter back in the mail. With Sz you’ll benefit from the human contact.

I don’t cry with the flat effect… but if you happen to, I’m sure it’ll be acceptable. Musicians bear a lot - it’s well known.

you know what? I contacted Brian and Lisa my cousin and we are going to do it in three weeks…one time only…who knows…
